Death Stranding 2: How I Boosted My Carry Weight

Boost carry weight in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach with heavy loads, Chiral Crystals, and Chiral Antigravity Devices.

I still remember the first time I tried to haul a mountain of cargo across the Australian wilderness in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. My poor Sam wobbled like a newborn giraffe, and every pebble felt like a boss fight. But after dozens of deliveries, I learned that carry weight is not just a stat—it is freedom. So, how did I go from struggling with a few crates to casually lugging a small warehouse? Let me tell you. 🎒

The Heavy-Lifting Method: Just Keep Walking

The first and most honest way to increase carry weight is to carry heavy loads over great distances. Yes, really. You can rank up Sam's capacity just by roaming around while he bears a heavy load on his back. Is it arduous? Absolutely. But it is also reliable. Whenever I moved tons of crates from one facility to the next, I eventually noticed rank-ups. The game rewards the struggle.

My personal rule: do not overload your backpack to the point of misery. I would often unload my backpack and use a strand—a rope—to tie my crates together. You need to keep your balance and shift your weight often, which means there is a high chance you might stumble. If your containers are tied together by a strand, it might prevent them from falling. I cannot count how many times that little rope saved my cargo from a muddy disaster. 🪢

Chiral Crystals: Tiny Rocks, Big Relief

Are you ignoring those small, jagged rocks with a yellowish glow? Do not. Chiral Crystals are one of the best ways to improve your carrying capacity. I find them all over the world, often near tar pits or at sites where I have defeated BTs. Try to scan your surroundings often with your Odradek so you can spot them while exploring. Here is a weird but wonderful tip: you can even find extra Chiral Crystals if you shower in a private room. It is like Sam is washing off the gunk and dirt, and out come a few resources. 🚿

Chiral Crystals have a couple of notable uses:

  • They help improve your carrying capacity based on how many you have collected in bulk. For every 1,000 cg you have on you, the overall load that Sam is carrying is reduced by 1 kg.

  • They are also used as components when crafting certain items or when conducting repairs—machinery, devices, roads, and the like.

I grab every Chiral Crystal I see. The nodes tend to reappear after some time has passed, too, so I mark good farming spots in my memory. 💎

Chiral Antigravity Devices: My Backpack's Best Friends

If you want a more direct boost, craft Chiral Antigravity Devices. You can craft one upon reaching Connection Level 2 with The Government, the first faction that you meet once you arrive in Australia. Each item requires 100x Chiral Crystals, 60x Chemicals, and 80x Special Alloys. That sounds expensive, but trust me: it is worth it.

Each Chiral Antigravity Device that is attached to your backpack increases Sam's load limit by 10 kg. You can craft multiples of these, but you need to make sure that you have enough space on your backpack so you can attach them somewhere. I usually aim for two or three before a long delivery, and suddenly a route that felt impossible becomes a pleasant stroll. ⚙️

My Carry Weight Cheat Sheet

Here is the simple table I wish I had at the start:

Method What it does My tip
Heavy loads over distance Gradually raises Sam's carry weight rank Use a strand to tie crates and avoid falls
Chiral Crystals Every 1,000 cg reduces load by 1 kg Scan often; shower for bonus crystals
Chiral Antigravity Device +10 kg load limit per device Craft after Connection Level 2 with The Government

So, what is the best approach? In my experience, combine all three. Walk heavy when you can, hoover up every Chiral Crystal, and craft Antigravity Devices as soon as you unlock them. The result is a Sam who can deliver hope, medicine, and ridiculous amounts of ceramics without tipping over at the first gust of wind. Humanity yearns to be interconnected once more, and with a bigger carry weight, I finally feel like I can answer the call. 🌍
